Walk This Way to Wellbeing
31st August 2018
As the season turns, Get Out More is encouraging people to get into the woods for a series of wellbeing walks. This September we will be running walks in Skipton, Ilkley and Keighley as part of the South Pennines Walk and Ride festival (8-23 September) and the first Keighley Walking Festival (17-23 September). Rather than simple A to B walks, the wellbeing walks, led by Annie Berrington, will include hands-on nature-based activities to encourage participants to connect with nature and feel the health benefits of spending time with trees. A family walk in Skipton Woods on 8 September will include fun, sensory activities for all ages, while the walks in Ilkley and Keighley later in the month are for adults only and will use ‘shinrin-yoku’ or forest bathing techniques to help people feel calm and relaxed.
All the events are free – more information via our Events page.
The South Pennines Walk and Ride festival is the perfect opportunity to explore the wild and wonderful South Pennines landscape, its heather-covered moors, steep-sided valleys, canals, reservoirs and packhorse trails. You can see the full programme here: South Pennines Walk and Ride Festival 2018
The first ever Keighley Walking Festival takes place 17-23 Sept with the aim of encouraging people experience the range of walks the district has to offer from short park strolls to riverside and canal-side walks, as well as more more strenuous moorland rambles in the surrounding countryside.
